Board of Directors

The Board will govern the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton with a strategic perspective in accordance to the Mission, Vision and Values and will be accountable to funders, consumers and other groups who are committed to the philosophy of equal participation among all citizens in community affairs.





  • Criminal Defence Lawyer for 30 years and past part-time federal (drug) prosecutor and Crown
  • Instrumental in initiating Drug Treatment Court and SURCH (Substance Use Related Crime in Hamilton) court addiction treatment programs which prevent crime and improve quality of life by addressing the participant’s treatment and social needs to address the underlying causes of their offending behaviour
  • Former president of the Hamilton Criminal Lawyers’ Association and former member of Legal Aid Area Committee
  • Past Board member of the Ontario Criminal Lawyers’ Association, John Howard Society, Wesley Community Homes, Wayside House, and HWDSB Special Education Advisory Committee
  • Beth would like to address the systemic issues that contribute to poverty and crime including addiction and mental health

O’GRADY, Susanne

  • Over 25 years’ experience in community relations, community education, community development and non-profit governance
  • Has worked with various community boards of voluntary organizations helping them to establish governance models and policies for the stewardship of their organizational mission
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of community program development – feasibility studies, community meetings and community planning
