Representatives from 12 Ontario communities met at Hamilton City Hall on December 14 to strategize about the impending cuts to the provincial Community Start-Up and Maintenance Benefits (CSUMB). The cancellation of CSUMB will have devastating impacts on low-income people looking to find safe and affordable housing in Ontario. The event was organized by the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction (HRPR) and Hamilton Organizing for Poverty Elimination (HOPE).
By the end of the session, the communities endorsed a joint statement for use in lobbying the provincial government. You can find the statement and more updates on the Ontario Communities Unite Facebook page.
