Rebranding event an opportunity to define initiative’s local focus
What’s in a name?
A lot, it turns out — at least according to Tastebuds, Hamilton’s freshest student nutrition collaborative.
On Tuesday, Hamilton Partners in Nutrition (HPIN) hosted a rebranding party at the Radius café on James Street South.
The aim, of course, was to unveil its new identity. But organizers also used the fête as an opportunity to address some of the many misperceptions around food programs in city schools.
“There’s a partly erroneous message that this is about feeding poor kids,” said program manager Deirdre Pike.
“While we do focus on making sure programs are in place in vulnerable neighbourhoods, we actually believe more in the reality that all kids have the potential to be nutritionally poor.”
That’s why Tastebuds strives to do more than fill a hunger gap. It also tries to educate, so kids can make smarter choices about food in the classroom and beyond.
