Hamilton has been working to right a wrong in the lead up to a case before the Human Rights Tribunal hearing.
A local transgender woman says her rights were violated by a security guard at the MacNab Bus Terminal when she wasn’t allowed to used the women’s washroom, in October. The hearing got underway Wednesday.
The city has since apologized and it has endeavoured to train more of its staff on human rights issues.
“Training is necessary,” Social Planning and Research Council’s Deirdre Pike told the Scott Thompson Show, Wednesday.
Pike has trained some 350 Public Health Department employees in Positive Space, or what she calls “Trans 101,” in an effort to spread understanding of the law and the issues.
