Homelessness and Housing Reports
The Progress Report on Homelessness in Hamilton 2003 is now available.
The Progress Report found that homelessness continues to be a crisis facing this community. Progress has been made in certain areas responding to homelessness, including emergency shelter capacity, new prevention programs, Aboriginal coordination and projects, transitional housing, research, and allocating resources to create affordable housing.
The Progress Report also found that there is much work still to do. Long-term solutions including reducing poverty, creating safe and affordable housing, and addressing systemic issues like racism showed little progress. The Report concludes with 26 recommendations in five areas: Services, Issues of Access and Equity, Poverty, Housing, and Aboriginal Issues.
