Women and Poverty in Hamilton
The updated Women and Poverty in Hamilton report is now available.
Women in Hamilton still earn less income than men. Even when we just compare full time workers, women make just 73% of men’s total income. Among women who work full-time all year long in Hamilton, 7% were earning wages so low they were still poor. This represents more than 4,000 working poor women in Hamilton.
This edition of the Women and Poverty in Hamilton report is included in the Women’s Press newspaper, published by the Immigrant Women’s Centre. 7,500 copies will be distributed across Hamilton.
The SPRC of Hamilton invites community members to use this information as a basis for discussion about the growing gap in incomes, the impacts of poverty and actions needed to address these conditions.
