Homelessness and Housing
A high priority for the SPRC is to address homelessness and the lack of affordable housing in Hamilton. Over the past decade, the SPRC has been heavily involved in documenting this growing crisis in our community as well as trying to find long term solutions.

The City of Hamilton, with research support from the SPRC, has recently published the most recent statistics on homelessness in Hamilton.
The work of the SPRC is currently focused on:
- Taking action which will result in an increase in the supply of affordable housing - Affordable Housing Flagship Initiative
- Providing information on affordable housing needs in Hamilton - Affordable Housing Information
- Community development and research support that promotes long term solutions to homelessness
Poverty
Another priority for the SPRC is the incidence and experience of poverty in Hamilton. The work of the SPRC is directed to (1) improving information about conditions of poverty in Hamilton and (2) developing strategies related to workforce and employment as a way of reducing poverty. The action taken:

Children and Families
Another priority for the SPRC is the condition of child and family well-being in Hamilton. Here the SPRC is (1) developing strategies that make Hamilton a child friendly community, (2) developing and supporting strategies that make Hamilton an inclusive community, and (3) educating citizens on the issue of families including non-traditional families. The action taken:
