The Board will govern the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton with a strategic perspective in accordance to the Mission, Vision and Values and will be accountable to funders, consumers and other groups who are committed to the philosophy of equal participation among all citizens in community affairs.

SPRC Call for Board Members

Are you interested in social issues that affect your community such as poverty reduction, equity and inclusion, housing affordability and the healthy development of children?
About Us
The Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton is a charitable organization that provides social research, community development, systems coordination, public policy analysis and community engagement on a variety of issues of importance to the Hamilton community.
SPRC is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and to building an organization that reflects the communities we serve. We strive to approach our work and responsibilities through an anti-racist, anti-oppression lens.
The Board functions through a governance model and as such, is tasked with the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and attend monthly Board meetings; committee meetings as needed and the Annual General Meeting
  • Strategic Plan development
  • Approve budgets and monitor financial performance
  • Review organizational by-laws, code of conduct and Board policies
  • Establish criteria and monitor Executive Director performance
  • Participate in Board recruitment process
  • Keep informed about community issues relevant to the mission and objectives of the SPRC

About You
We are currently seeking dynamic, committed, community-oriented individuals to join the Board of Directors. The time commitment is approximately 3-5 hours per month, with meetings typically held on the third Wednesday of the month. The Board is currently meeting virtually due to COVID-19.
We encourage applications from persons with experience in the following areas:

  • Board governance experience
  • Non-profit Management/Leadership experience
  • Finance and/or Accounting acumen

Along with consideration of the following:

  • Affiliation or familiarity with Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) communities and issues
  • Affiliation or familiarity with Two-Spirit, non-binary, trans, lesbian gay, bisexual and queer people (2SLGBTQ+)
  • Differently- abled persons
  • Persons with an affiliation or familiarity with poverty issues
