Equity & Inclusion

Social exclusion and discrimination are daily realities for thousands of Hamiltonians who face stigma in our community because of their economic situation, physical or mental health realities, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or family status.

Focusing on inclusion is a key to making Hamilton a safer more caring and equitable community for all residents. The best strategies to achieve equity and inclusion include: increasing community engagement and participation, building relationships between communities, reducing disparities between groups, and promoting education about the effects of social exclusion.

The SPRC currently has a number of initiatives in the area of equity and inclusion covering a broad range of important issues currently facing Hamilton, including the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people, neighbourhood development and health equity.
