A social planning agency is pitching a citywide “complete streets” strategy to cut health and economic disparities between neighbourhoods.
The concept of complete streets — designed to cater to all users, not just cars — is gaining traction as a planning principle in Hamilton. Councillors endorsed a holistic transportation plan this spring that includes the creation of a complete streets strategy and demonstration project.
A formal road map is needed sooner rather than later, said Sara Mayo, who helped compile a draft strategy on behalf of different community groups working with the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton.
