It’ll take a village to stop gun violence.
That was the dominant message out of a community meeting in the packed auditorium of the Bennetto Community Centre on Wednesday night.
Downtown councillors Jason Farr and Matthew Green called the town hall in response to a string of gun violence this summer. Just blocks away, 18-year-old Shariek Douse was shot and killed last month in the parking lot of the public housing townhouse complex where he lived.
Concerned neighbours came armed with questions and comments for representatives of various community organizations, including the John Howard Society, the NGEN Youth Centre, CityHousing Hamilton, the Social Planning and Research Council, and Hamilton Police Services.
