Poverty elimination is foundational to healthy and caring community where everyone has an opportunity to participate in community life.
In the last decade, the SPRC has been a key member of many of Hamilton’s anti-poverty initiatives, including the Income Security Working Group, the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction, and 25 in 5 Hamilton, now called Hamilton Organizing for Poverty Elimination (HOPE). The SPRC has focused its efforts on two main strategies: research and analysis about conditions of poverty in Hamilton; and community organizing and education for action, engaging a diverse range of groups and individuals in the community with an interest in eliminating poverty.
